Who am I?
I'm a Cumbrian character comedian, writer and actor. I run a successful comedy book night called Bad Book Project at the Blue Man in Brighton and a couple of comedy podcasts. I'm a Funny Women Awards Finalist and Brighton Comedy Festival Squawker Award Finalist 2015.
My solo character show was 'Made in Cumbria'. The show had a sold out run Brighton Fringe in May 2016 with Lamb Comedy Productions. My show was nominated for two Brighton Fringe awards of the Latest Comedy Award and for the Audience Choice Award.
'Made in Cumbria' debuted as my first ever Edinburgh Fringe in August 2016 with Sweet Venues. The show had sold out days and received great 4 & 5 star reviews. It was attended by many friendly Cumbrians. (Thank you Cumbria!) My new show is, 'The House' and will be taken to Brighton and Edinburgh Fringe 2017. I also recently had a lovely comedy part in a Radio 4 play called, 'Almost like being in love' alongside Game of Thrones star Gemma Whelan.
Why comedy writing workshops?
My passion is comedy. Simple.
7 years ago I didn't even know comedy could be a career option. I was a shy and anxious individual. I decided I was going to do a two year acting diploma on top of working full time to boost my confidence - of which I had none. After a good few years finding my feet and my passion, I'm now writing and performing in my own character comedy shows. I also wouldn't have got here if it wasn't for a certain comedy writing workshop. Years ago I took part in a Saturday afternoon comedy workshop with Funny Women and it changed my life. I was put on stage to do my first stand up that same Saturday night and it all went on from there.
I've also taken a couple of other comedy workshops through the years and found them to be inspiring and overall...so much fun!
If you're reading this you may be wondering how you can get into comedy, how to write jokes, make characters or perform. You may be shy and scared like I was years ago. This is why the workshops were put together. For you.
Alternatively, you may have a funny friend you know who would be perfect for a comedy writing workshop and would get a lot out of it. If so, book them a place or just direct them to this website. Or, maybe you and a friend do a workshop and become comedy writer buddies.
Life's too short to not be doing what you love or at least giving something new a shot!
